Outdoor Activities

  • Boone Greenway TrailThis paved and gravel trail follows the edge of the New River.  It’s fully accessible and great for walking, running, biking, wheelchairs, strollers and hikers.
  • Tweetsie Railroad: This wild west theme park is great if you’re looking for family fun. It includes a 3 mile train adventure on historic locomotives, amusement rides, gold panning and more.
  • Sugar Mountain Ski Resort: This winter and summer ski resort has an activity for everyone in your group whether it be skiing, snowshoeing, hiking or mountain biking.
  • Appalachian Ski Mountain: If you’re visiting during the winter we highly recommend visiting the mountain for some skiing, snowboarding or ice skating.
  • Moses H. Cone Memorial Park: Located at Mile Post 294 is the Summer Home of Moses and Bertha Cone.  Tour this Flat Top Manor and estate while learning about the history of this textile magnate.
  • High Gravity Ziplining: If you’re looking for adventure be sure try ziplining, aerial adventure park walk or the giant 3 person swing. 
  • Mountain Bound Fly Guides: Boone has miles of pristine rivers and streams and a great place to fly fish.

  • Mast General Store: Visit the classic American mercantile.  This old country store is considered a historic site and is full of unique and interesting merchandise.
  • Mystery Hill: A fun attraction for all groups with optical illusions at the Natural Gravitational Anomaly, learn about science, hang out in a bubble, try axe throwing or test out your bull riding skills.
  • Doc’s Rocks Gem Mine: An Appalachian Mountain based gemstone mining operation with a fossil museum and a dinosaur themed 9 hole mini putt.
